I am Dr. Anne A. Nicholas. My Cosmetic, Periodontal and Implant dental practice is called The Palm Desert Center for Advanced Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry . We are located at 73929 Larrea Street, Suite 2   Palm Desert, California. You can find information about my practice, services, and professional Palm Springs, CA dental team at http://palmdesertimplantdentist.com.

In my The Palm Desert Center for Advanced Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry dental blog, I post informative articles about dentistry including new Palm Desert cosmetic dental treatments, preventative Rancho Mirage, CA dental care, and news about my dental practice. Many of my patients visit my blog regularly and I hope you will also find useful dental information here.

Do you currently have a Palm Desert dentist? If you are in need of a dentist or are not happy with your current dentist, I invite you to visit my office, meet my friendly staff, and discuss your dental needs with me.

My approach to my profession emphasizes you, the patient.

My first priority is exceeding my patient’s expectations. Before I can provide dental treatment, however, I must become familiar with each patient. That is why your first consultation will take some time. We can’t get to know each other in five minutes.

How are you doing? What is the current condition of your teeth and gums? What are your fears and expectations about Palm Springs dental treatment? Do you have financial concerns regarding your dental needs? I recognize that each one of my patients has a unique set of circumstances.

At The Palm Desert Center for Advanced Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry, we emphasize preventative dental care. When restorative dental treatment is necessary, I recommend the most conservative procedures. If you have pressing dental needs, let’s talk about your options and consider the long term consequences of each treatment. If I believe it is best to refer you to another specialist, I’ll do so without hesitation. I am committed to your well-being and want you to receive the best possible care.

If you are interested in Palm Desert cosmetic dentistry, I can also help you. I pursue continual training in the latest cosmetic treatments and have extensive experience performing individual tooth restorations, complete smile makeovers and everything in between. Did you know that I can completely redesign your smile if that is what you desire? Miracles are possible with cosmetic dentistry.

Please call us at (760) 340-1030 to book a consultation. I am confident you will feel good about choosing The Palm Desert Center for Advanced Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry for your dental care.

Are You Losing Your Dental Insurance Benefits?

dentalexam

This recession has really changed the way people do things.
Folks are saving more and charging less. They’re worrying
about the future, eating more dinners at home and putting
off purchases they once would have made without a thought.

There’s one place, though, where tons of people – maybe even
you — are leaving literally MILLIONS of dollars on the table,
and that’s their dental insurance.

How can that be?

My guess is that it’s because dental insurance isn’t like the
other kinds of insurance you buy.

You buy car insurance to cover you if you’re in an accident
or your car is damaged, and health insurance primarily to
insulate yourself from the high cost of treating a
serious illness or injury.

Dental insurance is different, though. It’s meant to
cover the ROUTINE and PREVENTIVE care you need
to protect your smile and your health — as well as contribute
a portion of the cost of more extensive treatment.

That makes dental insurance VERY valuable – if you
understand how it works and how to get the most out of it.

Use it or LOSE it

You see, there’s something else you need to remember
about dental insurance. It comes with an annual maximum
benefit (the top amount it will cover in a calendar year)
– and if you don’t use all of it by the end of that year
whatever is left simply disappears. NO ROLLOVER.

So if, for example, your annual maximum benefit is
$1,000 and you use just $200 of it, you’re leaving
$800 of YOUR money on the table.

That’s something you just can’t afford to do in times
like these.

How Mini Dental Implants Can Help Your Smile In Palm Desert California!

mini dental implants

Hello, I am Dr. Anne A. Nicholas of “The Palm Desert Center for Advanced Cosmetic, Sedation and Implant Dentistry” and I would like to explain how a dental implant can help improve your smile.

In a recent post, I explained how traditional dental implants are used to dramatically improve the lives of my Palm Springs denture and cosmetic dentistry clients. Today’s topic is mini dental implants, sometimes called ‘immediate implants’.

Though they are not as well known as traditional tooth implants, mini implants are also being used successfully in the Palm Desert and surrounding area to improve smiles. Like their larger diameter counterparts, mini implants can support a restoration for one or more missing teeth or replace a bridge or fixed denture. Many of our denture wearers benefit greatly from these slip free dental implants that are anchored securely in the jaw bone.

In some cases, a patient is unable to receive traditional full-size dental implants due to insufficient bone thickness. There are also Rancho Mirage mini implant patients who are not able to undergo dental implant surgery due to health issues. These overdenture patients in the 92260  postal code area are often excellent candidates for the mini version.

The placement of toothpick-size mini dental implants can usually be done in one dental visit. The placement usually requires no incisions or stitches. Recovery time, if necessary, is usually very short. Most patients are able to eat dinner that evening.

Many Coachella Valley aesthetic dentistry clients are happy to learn that mini implants are a lower cost dental implants option. Don’t let the word ‘mini’ fool you; your smile can receive a maximum upgrade with mini dental implants.

Call “The Palm Desert Center for Advanced Cosmetic, Sedation and Implant Dentistry” at (760) 340-1030 to schedule a consultation.

The miracle of APC+, Helping Yourself Heal

Bone graft

Bonegraft2

From time to time people will undergo surgery; some to repair damage caused by trauma, dental implants, and others to improve the aging process or birth defects.  Whatever the situation, Autologous Platelet Concentrate enriched with growth factors (APC+) is one tool used by surgeons to help improve surgical outcomes. Understanding how your body’s natural growth factors may help accelerate the healing process is important information you will want to know about if you are in need of a surgical procedure.

What are growth factors? Platelets contain potent growth factors necessary to begin tissue repair and regeneration at the wound site. Growth factors derived from platelets initiate connective tissue healing, bone regeneration and repair, promote development of new blood vessels, and stimulate the wound healing process. What is Autologous Platelet Concentrate (APC+)? APC+ is composed of platelets and plasma. Platelets are tiny cells that are partially responsible for causing blood to clot.  Platelets also contain large reservoirs of natural growth factors.  While a normal concentration of platelet circulating in your blood is 200,000 per micro liter, the platelet count in PRP can exceed 2 million platelets per micro liter.

APC+ is made from a small sample of your own blood (approximately 1 ½ oz.). The process concentrates the platelets found in the blood sample.  These concentrated platelets contain huge reservoirs of growth and wound healing factors.  Growth and wound healing factors are natural components of your body. Clinical data has shown that growth and wound healing factors may enhance and accelerate your body’s normal healing process.

Why is APC+ (enriched with growth factors) preferred over other products or methods? APC+ is the only available product that contains elevated levels of all your naturally occurring growth factors.  These growth factors are maintained in precisely the same ratios found circulating in your body.

How long has APC+ been in use?  APC+ has been in use by leading clinicians for over a decade.  Doctors like Anne A. Nicholas have been using APC+ for dental bone grafts and soft tissue grafts to stabilize the graft material. She is using APC+ to help fixate bone grafts as well as accelerate bone growth in dental implant procedures.  APC+ will help seal wounds and accelerate soft tissue healing in facial plastic and cosmetic surgeries as well.

If you are considering or require a surgical procedure, such as a dental implant, you will want to call Dr. Nicholas of The Palm Desert Center for Advanced Cosmetic, and Implant Dentistry and ask her about APC+.  You will want to ask her how APC+ is made and what is required from you and how long will this procedure take.  Is APC+ for you? The use of APC+ is considered by many to be a “new frontier” of clinical therapy.

Dr. Anne A. Nicholas has been serving Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, and Coachella Valley patients for nearly two decades. Dr. Nicholas’s office is located in Palm Desert at 73929 Larrea Street, Suite 2 to serve you better. Visit http://www.palmdesertimplantdentist.com for map to this location.  Or, feel free to call Dr. Anne A. Nicholas at 760-340-1030 and she will be happy to answer your questions concerning APC+.

Cosmetic Smile

I’m Dr.Anne A. Nicholas and I enjoy using my extensive dental training and specialized artistic skills to design treatment plans unique to each of my Palm Desert cosmetic dental patients.

In order to achieve an attractive, yet natural looking result, I do much more than recommend specific procedures. I consider the shape, alignment, color and condition of the teeth. At The Palm Desert Center for Advanced Cosmetic, and Implant Dentistry, there is no one size fits all treatment plan.

My artistic abilities have been perfected over several years of creating smile transformations for my Palm Desert, CA dental patients. I am constantly receiving the latest training in new techniques and materials.

Even fairly recent cosmetic dental procedures such as teeth whitening and porcelain veneers have advanced considerably. Dental implants are a truly remarkable solution for our California dental patients who have lost one or more teeth.

I would love to design a personalized smile makeover for you. When the work has been completed and you are enjoying your new look, it will only be obvious to those who see you all the time. Others will assume you have always been blessed with a naturally beautiful and healthy smile.

Cosmetic Dentistry Just For YOU!

Dr.Nicholasoffice

If you have damaged teeth that are causing you embarrassment, even if most of your other teeth are nicely shaped and pearly white, guess what other people notice? You guess correctly, those damaged teeth. You have probably experienced that yourself when you have looked at a smile that contains one discolored tooth. No matter how hard you try, the unsightly one is impossible to ignore.

A beautiful smile is an important component of your overall appearance. Unattractive teeth draw the eye away from other pleasing features such as thick shiny hair, gorgeous eyes or a peaches and cream complexion.

Fortunately, there are several cosmetic dental procedures to restore or repair one or more teeth. At The Palm Desert Center for Advanced Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry in Palm Desert, we can complete most of them in one visit. Think about it; you could achieve a stunning smile in less than an afternoon!

Veneers, Bonding and Cosmetic Implant Dentistry Dental bonding is an affordable cosmetic dentistry procedure available in Palm Desert at The Palm Desert Center for Advanced Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry. We use dental bonding in a variety of applications. In addition to repairing damage, dental bonding can close gaps between teeth. Porcelain veneers are another minimally invasive cosmetic fix. Like cosmetic dental bonding, veneers correct chips, cracks and improve tooth shape.

What if your problem is not an unattractive tooth but a missing tooth? Don’t despair; a beautiful smile is still possible in Palm Springs or Palm Desert with dental implants.

For more information about veneers, bonding, implants and other cosmetic dentistry procedures, call The Palm Desert Center for Advanced Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry at 760-340-1030. We are conveniently located at 73929 Larrea Street, Suite 2,   Palm Desert, California. We provide advanced dentistry for patients in Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage and the surrounding areas. We look forward to showing you cosmetic dentistry; you’re ‘before & after’ pictures.

Why I may need a Bone Graft!

picofdentistYour dentist recommends a bone graft before you can get a dental implant. Why is bone important for a dental restoration?

Your teeth are rooted or anchored into the jaw in an area of bone called the alveolar ridge. The alveolar ridge bone surrounds tooth roots to secure teeth, and allows for normal tooth use such as chewing. Over time, especially when teeth have been missing due to trauma, decay, or periodontal (gum) disease, the alveolar bone in the jaw begins to deteriorate to the point that enough bone has been lost that there is not enough to support the successful placement of dental implants.

If this is your situation, then a bone graft may be needed.  If your alveolar ridge bone is lacking sufficient bone, you will need to re-grow the bone to place dental implants.  Dr. Anne A. Nicholas of “The Palm Desert Center for Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry” can help you. Dr. Nicholas will do a complete evaluation of your condition and make recommendations that you can choose from to determine the procedure that meets your dental requirements.

Bone grafting consists of two parts: a protein that is found in everyone’s body, plus a natural carrier for delivery. The protein ingredient can be a (recombinant engineered) human bone morphogenetic protein, a synthetic version of a protein everyone’s body produces naturally in small amounts to regulate bone and growth and healing. The natural carrier is made of a material found in tendons.  It releases the protein over time where it is placed, provides a scaffold (framework) for new bone to grow into and is absorbed and replaced by bone.

Another method is harvesting bone from your own body, (autogenous bone) and surgically placing it where new bone growth is needed.  This procedure attracts your body’s own bone building cells to the site and over time, new bone is formed.  Bone grows where the bone graft is placed, for a predictable bone growth results. Consult with your dentist to determine bone grafting procedure that will support your dental implant or other dental restoration.

Some question that you may want to ask your dentists:

  1. Why do I need a bone graft or bone augmentation?
  2. Please describe options and the procedures to me?
  3. What medications will be prescribed?
  4. How long will my entire course of treatment take?
  5. What are potential complications of bone grafting?
  6. Who should not receive bone grafting?
  7. Are there potential complications of bone grafting?
  8. Whom may I contact in your office if I have more questions, and how can I reach them?

Talk to your dentist!  This blog is written to provide information you need to make an informed decision.  A dentist like Dr. Anne A. Nicholas is the only one qualified to diagnose and treat your dental conditions. As with any surgical procedure, you should find a dentist who is experienced in performing the specific surgery that you are considering.

Dr. Nicholas completed her post-doctoral program in Periodontics & Dental Implants at Loma Linda University and world renowned Misch Implant Institute. She has been serving Palm Desert, Palm Springs and the entire Coachella Valley since 1992.  Her office is located at: 73-929 Larrea Street, Suite 2, Palm Desert, California.
