Conscious Sedation Dentistry

Sedation ImageWho enjoys going to see a dentist?  Let’s face it; this is not the way we prefer to spend our time.  In fact some people are scared to death to go see a dentist and defer the event as long as possible.  The thought of it just ruins their day.

If you are one of these people whose heart beats faster and palms start to sweat just thinking about going to see a dentist; then read on because advances in dental science now make your dental experience more enjoyable.

Palm Desert dentists like Anne A. Nicholas, D.D.S., Scott R. Adishian, D. D.S. and Harry Karna, D.D.S. understand your concerns and have a good understanding of Conscious Sedation Dentistry.  Conscious Sedation Dentistry has never been better in Palm Desert, Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley.

Conscious Sedation dentistry is used with moderation for most dental procedures like dental implants, periodontics and prosthodontics (Cosmetic Dentistry).  Once you’ve experienced Conscious Sedation Dentistry, your fears will go away and you will even look forward to your next visit.

What is Conscious Sedation Dentistry? Is conscious sedation safe for me?  Oral sedation dentistry requires you to take a small pill one hour prior to your dental appointment; no needles or intravenous tubes required.  There is no general anesthesia, so no inherent risks are associated with this procedure. Yes it is safe!  Most likely you will sleep through the entire dental procedure and you will be in a relaxed state, free of fear, anxiety and apprehension.  Dr. Nicholas or one of her qualified staff members will be by your side monitoring the entire procedure, checking blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeter and other state-of-art equipment to insure your comfort and good health.

If you require complex treatment requiring multiple procedures, conscious sedation will allow the dentist to do more treatment per session, cutting down on your total office visits.  Imagine being able to visit a dentist, with no fear, sweating palms, rapidly beating heart rate; this will be your experience in Palm Desert with Anne A. Nicholas, D.D.S., Inc.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic DentistryCosmetic dentistry falls under the category of Prosthodontics.  Common characteristic or treatment options include but are not limited to the following procedures:

•    Contouring: a treatment done by dentists like Dr. Anne A. Nicholas of Palm Desert, California who have been trained to reshape teeth.  This procedure corrects crooked, chipped, cracked or even overlapping teeth.  People seeking treatment of this nature will find this a possible substitute to braces.

•    Dental Bridges:  Known also as pontics; used by dentists to fill in the area where teeth are missing or that need to be replaced.  These bridges are attached to other teeth, and consist of porcelains that have been fused together.  Using CAD/CAM technology and newer stronger composite materials that match the appearance of natural tooth structure, these bridges are permanent and can span the distance of several missing teeth.  In some cases, a less expensive solution to dental implants.

•    Bonding:  This process is used to sculpt, and shape teeth.  Dental composite materials are used on the teeth, and then when the composite is dried, it is then polished to match the other surrounding teeth.

•    Veneers:  Patients who have good healthy teeth choose this option when their teeth have been stained or lack the white color they are seeking.  Ultr-thin custom-made laminates made in dental laboratories like Iverson Dental Laboratories of Riverside, California and then bonded directly to the teeth.

•    Gum lift:  This procedure is a little more complex, but is required when the gum line, tissue or underlying bones need to be adjusted to give a more pleasing look and symmetrical appearance of the teeth.

Patients should check with their insurance carrier to determine which of the procedures mentioned above are covered.  Many plans cover injury related treatment and orthodontia.  Veneers, and whitening are generally not cover, and patients should discuss these procedure with their dentist to determine cost and or payment plans.
